Who We Are
The Zeta Phi Sigma Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., embraces sisterhood, fellowship, and fun for the whole Sigma Family. Our "Intentional Sisterhood" aims to enhance communities in South King, Pierce, and Thurston Counties. We are impactful and deliberate in our ongoing commitment to support communities in the South Puget Sound region and beyond. We can't do it alone, so we've developed community partnerships to broaden the depth and impact of our programs. We invest in youth by providing backpacks, school supplies, swim clinics, a youth symposium, and annual scholarships for high school and college-bound students.
Our Tacoma Sigma family consists of Philos which are friends of Sigma, Rhoers which are young ladies aged 12-18 and the Rhosebuds of Zeta Phi Sigma are girls aged 8-11. We work together to meet the needs of our communities.
Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. was organized on November 12, 1922, in Indianapolis, Indiana, by seven young educators: Mary Lou Allison Gardner Little, Dorothy Hanley Whiteside, Vivian Irene White Marbury, Nannie Mae Gahn Johnson, Hattie Mae Annette Dulin Redford, Bessie Mae Downey Rhoades Martin, and Cubena McClure. Since its inception, the dynamic women of Sigma Gamma Rho have established and maintained a well-known and respected reputation for leading positive change to better the community through sisterhood, leadership, and service.
